Around the World from the Editing Desk

Last month, The Traveler’s Atlas of the World was published by National Geographic. For me, this is the moment where I get to open up a cardboard box and actually hold a physical book that I helped create. It’s been a year since I wrapped up my part in this project as photo editor. Now ,suddenly, all the photos I’ve seen flash on my screen while editing have made their way out of PDFs and onto paper. It is pretty magical. Not to mention, this book is a hefty beauty, coming in at a whopping 560 pages at 10.5″ x 14″ in size.

Of course, working on this book and traveling virtually around the world only added to my ever-growing list of places I’d like to visit. And that is exactly the point of making this atlas–to inspire people to travel through its beautiful imagery, clever illustrations (by Laurène Boglio), and helpful travel tips. So, if you’re needing a last-minute holiday gift, this travel tome might be the one. And you can say you know the photo editor! Bonus if you can find my photos scattered throughout.

Thank you to the team at Nat Geo for their amazing work: Allyson Johnson, Ashley Leath, Sanaa Akkach, and Katie Dance!

If you’d like to support my favorite bookstore in Oregon, buy the book here.

A few of my previously unpublished images were able to make their way onto the page, such as these scenes from Easter Island, Fez (Morocco), and Budapest. It helps to know the photo editor.
